Paraiso Vineyards Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands 2006
'At Paraiso we describe ourselves as a 'sustainable farming organization.' This simply means to 'farm intelligently' û so that the same or better quality of farming is possible for the next generation. This is accomplished by stewarding our natural resources with great care; by thinking about the future while working in the present; by sharing knowledge and experience; by striking a balance that supports not takes away from the long term system.'û Rich Smith Owner / Grower
The rugged Santa Lucia Mountains frame Monterey's County's fertile Salinas Valley on the west, separating it from the Pacific Ocean. The vines of this unique hillside district enjoy cooling ocean breezes and fog from nearby Monterey Bay. The resulting slow, gentle ripening contributes to California's longest “hang time” — creating exceptional intensity, complexity, and balance in the grapes.
Bright garnet hue, aromas of cherries and strawberries with a hint of nutmeg, flavor notes of cherries, raspberries, spice and smoke driven by bright acidity to a balanced finish. A good value for a red fruit driven varietal that's food friendly.

Wine Tasting NotesEqual parts power and finesse, it displays classic Santa Lucia Highlands character: rich cherry/plum fruit accented by nuances of nutmeg, pepper, smoke, and vanilla. The wine's perfectly poised fruit/acid balance makes it incredibly food-versatile. The Paraiso Pinot is a wonderful complement to roast fowl and grilled salmon, as well as almost any duck, beef, or lamb preparation.
Full bodied and moderately rich this is a fine Pinot Noir at the price. It has good depth and balance and a long finish. It tastes of red currant plum herbs spicy oak and cedar. Restaurant Wine Magazine April 08.
