Paragon Vineyard Chardonnay 2008

Member Review by WineborkDotCom:

This excellent Chardonnay is available for a song ($7.99) at Costco. Crisp yet full of flavor, it tastes like a Chardonnay priced three times higher. Expressive nose of apricot, pear, and citrus oil. In the mouth, fresh and refreshing and displaying satisfying lemon drop and spice notes. Not dull or clumsy or sweet in the mouth like many inexpensive Chardonnays. Nice finish, too

Our Chardonnay offers smoky aromas of vanillin oak and sweet spice balanced by white peach, pineapple and citrus notes. On the palate, full, round flavors of white peach and citrus are accompanied by a subtle minerality on the long finish. Enjoy this lovely Chardonnay paired with creamy pastas, baked sea bass, seared scallops and roast chicken with lemon and herbs.

This is the wine that put the region on the map. Edna Valley Chardonnay is a consistently first rate wine, conveying the distinctive sense of place that is the Edna Valley appellation. Located in San Luis Obispo, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, just four miles from the Pacific Ocean, the Paragon Vineyard where all of the grapes are sourced sits in an east/west-oriented valley that is very unusual in California. This valley funnels cool marine air inland, creating what is typically the longest and coolest growing season in the state. Combine those factors with barrel fermentation, lees stirring and aging in a unique combination of French, American and Hungarian Oak, and you have a Chardonnay that outclasses almost every wine other in its price range.
