Paradigm Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Pretty much a copy of last year, maybe a tad less opulent, this is a soft, balanced Cabernet that shows off Oakville's supreme ability to ripen fruit and tannins. It's a gentle, thoroughly dry wine, rich in black currant, cherry and mocha flavors, with a nice cut of acidity. Best in its youth, but should hold for 10 years.

Paradigm Winery, located in the Oakville appellation of Napa Valley, hand-crafts small quantities of estate-bottled red wine. We're known for our Merlot and our Cabernet Sauvignon, though we also produce a tiny amount of Zinfandel and Cabernet Franc. Regardless of the varietal, our wines are a rich expression of the vineyard we've been farming now for twenty-nine years. Paradigm Winery is owned and managed by Ren and Marilyn Harris, two winegrowers with extraordinarily deep roots in Napa Valley. Marilyn's grandparents immigrated from Italy to Napa Valley in 1890, while Ren's family came to California in 1769. Marilyn and Ren purchased Paradigm Vineyards in 1976, and began producing wine with the 1991 vintage. Since that first vintage, the wines have been made by renowned winemaker, Heidi Peterson Barrett. Made by Heidi Barrett, a gracefully soft, impressively balanced wine, with ripe, almost sweet cassis, cherry and cocoa flavors. Sure is easy to drink, but also has the structural harmony to hang in there for up to 10 years.

Notably complex and complete, with a mix of sweet, ripe currant, black cherry and plum accented by ample vanilla bean and mocha-scented oak. The tannins are firm, ripe and well-integrated, giving it an elegant mouthfeel. Best from 2007 through 2013.

A rich, sophisticated, concentrated wine, with layers of blackberry, currant, pencil lead, cedar and earth, finishing with a smooth texture and silky tannins. Drink now through 2012.

This Cabernet has luscious black cherry and blackberry aromas with a bit of mocha, red licorice and spice. On the palate, the wine is a big round mouthful of flavor, power and elegance. Classic Paradigm flavor profile, black cherry, and a sweet touch of toasty french oak.
