Dense dark red, Pape Clement shows above average ripeness in the aroma, with beautiful, almost exotic red and black fruits. The palate is full, rich and long with lingering ripe fruit and oak notes. An individual and excpetional style. Tasted from barrel April '07. After againg in barrel, Pape Clement is still darker and denser in color than its peers, exhibiting a deep, rich, warm aroma boasting generous fruit and oak-but not in excess. In the mouth, the wine has impressive, mouth-coating richenss and ripeness along with a sensual veneer of oak. Long, impressive and distinctive. Tasted January '09. Robert Parker 95.

Few great growths can claim seven centuries of history, or to have a Pope's passion as their origin. The estate takes its name from its first owner Clement V, elected under Philip the Fair in 1305. The current owner has pursued his work and created a first in Bordeaux by hand-desteming the entire harvest. With a commitment to excellence, the grapes are fed under gravity into small wooden casks adapted to the surface area of each section and then vinified with the greatest care from the vine through to bottling.
