Pape Clement 93w&s Premier 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

"This brilliant blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot (which was harvested very late) reveals complex aromas of lead pencil shavings, burning embers, black currants, cherries, and blackberries as well as a subtle smoky charcoal component. Medium to full-bodied and spicy with sweet tannin and an opulent, fleshy personality, it is a terrific effort from this great Pessac-Leognan vineyard. Consume it now and over the next 15+ years…91" WA 6/07"The most concentrated wine of Graves, Pape-Clement may be as profound as the first-growth, Haut-Brion. The deep ruby/purple-colored 2004 exhibits a fragrant bouquet of flowers, camphor, earth, and red as well as black fruits. Medium-bodied, surprisingly textured and rich, with decent acidity, a long finish, and moderate but sweet tannin, it is an exceptionally successful wine...92-94" WA 05/05 "Nearly opaque in the glass but for the vibrant edge. The superripe black cherry fruit brightens and darkens like sun through clouds as it mingles with a seamless structure. Then air begins to show some of the craft behind the wine, the expensive oak, a hint of coarseness in the extract. Give it points if you like power, subtract a few if you prefer elegance. Either way, it's impressive...93" W&S 10/07
