A totally unexpected showing of this bottle. I had expected a modern, oak influenced candy shop of a Barolo but what I got was a balanced and finessed example of an 11 year old Barolo just coming to age. Color was a brilliant dark red. The nose was a mix of intense spicy fruit, herbs and leather. But then, the palette... Fresh and vibrant red fruits with an amazing expansive flavor of ripe cherry on the mid palette. The finish was long, earthy and full of minerals, stone and tar. I would never have thought this would be a bottle from a "modernist" producer. My second favorite of the evening.

A giant of a wine. Intense aromas of prunes and spices with hints of lilacs and cloves. Full-bodied and massive with huge soft tannins and a long long finish. Very smoky and rich. Exotic great wine. Best after 2008. 305 cases made. Wine Spectator.

A new offering the 1997 Barolo Caro Bric is an elegant stylish example. It reveals a tell-tale saturated garnet color with amber at the edge in addition to intense aromas of coffee smoke kirsch herbs leather and fruitcake. Full-bodied with expansive saturated layers of fruit and abundant stuffing as well as richness. It is an exceptional Barolo to enjoy between 2002-2016. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
