Paolo Scavino Barolo Cannubi 2013

Member Review by Anna Savino:

Cannubi is the cru in Barolo. This is still considered to be the Feminine side of the valley. I was mostly overwhelmed by its tones of dark chocolate and silky feel on the palate.Exudes sensuality!

The nose is full of menthol and ripe fruits. On the palate a much sweeter style is accompanied by some round flavours of dark cherries. The acidity is well maintained all the way giving the wine a certain purity. Beautiful finish! QC (http://www.questionofwine.blogspot.com)

EXCELLENT WINE---MUCH BETTER THAN "RIPPLE" OR "TIGER ROSE"

Smooth and slick modern style Barolo. So frustrating, because you can sense a beautiful core of fruit that's blocked by the wood. Not shut down- it lacks the energy that you should get from this.

In the glass the wine is clearly aged and is a lighter jewel like ruby in the glass with even lighter hues. The nose grabs you straight from the bottle, sweet and fruity, with raspberries and plums making up the key notes, a little earth and oaky tones detected. This wine hits home in the palate, exceptionally smooth and rich, you really feel like you have a quality wine as the mouth feel is gorgeous and silky and oh so opulent. Elegance till the finish as the flavours linger on and on, hints of vanilla on the end. I got this wine at the peak of its bell curve and for that I'm giving the wine 97 points.

Perfumed and forthcoming, exhibiting violet, cherry, raspberry and spice notes. Harmonious and elegant, with firm, underlying tannins, a tightly knit structure and a terrific finish. This should develop and become more complex with time. Best from 2017 through 2032.

The 2010 Barolo Cannubi is a layered and ethereal wine with dried flowers, candied orange peel, tar, spice, tobacco and cola. That signature touch of dried mint or pressed lavender flower appears at the back. This expression is particularly clean, focused and bright. Paolo Scavino has rented this half-hectare vineyard site since 1985. The mouthfeel is thin and compact. Drink: 2017–2030.

Good deep, full red. Wonderfully vibrant nose hints at raspberry, flowers, minerals and pepper. Sappy and vinous in the mouth, with insinuating sweetness to its flavors of red cherry, raspberry and dried flowers. Not as large-scaled as the Bric del Fiasc but this energetic, sharply delineated wine expands impressively with aeration and finishes with terrific building length. Lay this one down for fireworks in about eight years.

Just mid ruby with broad orange-tinged rim. Pure and focused and fine. Elegant and intense on the finish. Richly tannic and completely integrated acidity yet clear cru level. 17/20 (WS) Jancis Robinson.

The 2007 Barolo Cannubi is a massive, imposing wine, as so many Baroli from this site are in 2007. This is a remarkably primary unevolved Barolo that impresses for its seamless fruit and breathtaking richness. With time in the glass, the wine's aroma... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Intense aromas of meat, berries with hints of black truffles. Goes to dried dark fruits. Full body, with intense super polished tannins and a long chewy finish. This is very powerful.
