Paolo Scavino Barolo 2010
"Scavino's 2010 Barolo is supple and open, even in this vintage. Sweet red cherries, savory herbs, tobacco and mint meld together in an approachable Barolo that will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. The 2010 is all about polish, finesse and delicacy. Sweet spices and crushed flowers meld into the expressive finish. The main vineyard sites are Rocche Mariondino, Vignolo, Altenasso, Terlo, Vignano and San Bernardo. The Scavino Barolo is a wonderful lens through which to get an early sense of the vintage...91" AG 01/14
Editorial Reviews for Paolo Scavino Barolo
Smelling like a bowl of cherry fruit topped with hints of sandalwood, rose hips, and other woodsy spice. Sweet and round on entry, this shows off lots of red fruit and soft tannins in a rather loose and fleshy style that finishes quickly with a pop of black cherry fruit. A bit pedestrian. 86pts
darker, denser, and redder – really intense nose of liquory and jammy fruit over spicy oak notes, think jam on toast – very soft and strawberry fruited, good medium bodied mouthfeel, simple, some menthol, good acidity, bit drying on the finish, very pleasant if monolithic, nice herbal character on the finish which is a bit drying, spicy and dark. A decent wine if not particularly Barolo-like
Waxy on the nose with lightly pruny fruit and sweet spicy, toasty notes. Really quite bright on entry with big, simple red raspberry fruits supported by soft tannins that support the fruit through the moderate finish ending with a nice hint of tar. With air this shows a bit better integration but it is a bit clumsy. 86pts
More Blueberry, Vanilla and Blackberry... subtle notes. long close. perfect for the event. ***** Thank you Paulo Scavino Winery for making this possible.!
Paulo Scavino Barolo 2010 fit the venue perfect. Impressive for it's youth.
Four and a half glasses
Well develop nose with blackcurrant and dark cherries tones. Firm on the palate with present tannins. The acidity is lifting up the wine towards the end. The finish is quite silky with a long length. QC (http://www.questionofwine.blogspot.com)
This wine gives me goose bumps. First time I had it was in small wine bar in Rome after a lovely day with a close friend & his family. Plums, dried fuits, juicy, complex. Pure velvet. It's what made me start loving wine.
My best Barolo!

Good bright medium red. Pure, high-pitched aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, violet, menthol and pepper. Supple but a bit youthfully reduced, showing lovely vinosity to its medium-bodied dark fruit, licorice and floral flavors. Much juicier and less evolved than the 2009 version. Finishes with substantial suave tannins that reach the front teeth.
The 2010 Barolo is sourced from five or six vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Barolo. This is a gorgeous wine with a silky entry and loads of elegant fruit, cassis, licorice, tar and cola. There’s a real sense of energy and zest in the mouth that is not just due to the freshness of the acidity. It comes from the pristine quality of fruit in 2010. Drink: 2016–2028.
An outstanding entry-level Barolo and one of our favorites at this price point. Paolo Scavino Normale Barolo strikes a magnificent balance between lovely fruit character and intriguing notes of mineral and spice.
Crazy nose of dried flowers and then dark fruits. Goes to licorice too. Full body, with velvety tannins and intense blueberries and dark chocolate. Long and powerful. Best after 2016. James Suckling. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2007 Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric 750ml
Wild dark fruits here on the nose with raspberries and blueberries. Fresh flowers like lilacs. Full bodied, with chewy tannins and loads of fruit. Very back ended, with a big finish. Give this a few years to come together. Best after 2014. James Suckling. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2007 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc 750ml
WA: 94Pts-Offers loads of plum, fl owers and herbs on the nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, long fi nish. Very rich and layered. Fabulous. The selection of grapes from Scavino s three cru vineyards, Rocche di Castiglione, Cannubi and Bric d l Fiasc, gives balance and complexity to this wine.
Good full, deep red. Brooding, medicinal nose shows less floral lift than the Cannubi but very good ripeness. Big and rich but with a subdued sweetness today; a bit lower-toned than the Cannubi. This very backward wine will need a long time in bot... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2007 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc 750ml
