Winemaker's Notes:

The beautiful high-rise medieval town of San Gimignano must be one of the most beautiful in Tuscany, but in wine terms is something of a backwater. The annual arrival of hundreds of thousands of thirsty tourists has meant that the regions winemakers have had to care little about the quality of their product. Giovanni Panizzi, Milanese by birth, has however taken a different tack. A true Milanese gentlemen with a love of wine and country life, he visited San Gimignano a few years ago and was so struck by its overwhelming beauty and delightful countryside that he decide to pack his bags and move in. His wines help to give the City of Towers its excellent reputation on the international oenological stage. A natural talent for wine making combined with a minute attention to detail have resulted in these excellent wines which he produces from a mere 20 hectares in Santa Margherita. The Riserva is made from a selection of grapes produced by the oldest vine of the vineyard. It shows a deep straw yellow hue, with a hint of light green. It has an elegant nose with a scent of vanilla. There is good balance and long finish. Try this wine with pistachio-crusted pork with plum sauce and fried leeks, boiled lobsters with tarragon butter or pasta with caramelised onions, cabbage, and smoked ham.
