What to Expect

Merlot has gotten a bad rap as of late but there is no denying the wine's appeal. Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure. Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing and an obvious alternative to similar, more tannic Bordeaux varieties.

Winemakers Notes

Our Merlot is a blend of Estate Merlot and Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon ranges from 12 to 18 percent depending on the vintage. Reviews

Rating: 92/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 114, May/June 2004 ($45) Deep ruby-red. Captivating nose combines black fruits, violet, brown spices, chocolate and earth. Sweet and creamy but not heavy; a near-confectionery, milk-chocolatey wine with a texture like liquid silk. Finishes sweet and lush, with very ripe tannins and a whiplash of dark berries and milk chocolate. Very sexy merlot.

...This big, bold, distinctly chocolatey Merlot offers a quintessential look at California ripeness and will never be mistaken for a mannerly .claret., but its mouthfilling fruit and compelling oak sweetness add up to an opulent wine that is easy to ...
