A spectacular Merlot from proprietor Jim Richards, Paloma's full-bodied 2001 offers up a gorgeous display of black currant and mocha-infused fruit that cuts a large swath across the palate. Unctuously textured, with no hard edges, gorgeous aromatics, and loads of flavor. it will provide enjoyment over the next 7-8 years. P.S. This is the Wine Spectator's wine of the year for 2003.
Supple and complex, an elegant, graceful style, with pretty currant, plum, wild berry, sage and cedar notes. Drink now through 2007.
A big, sweet perfume of chocolate fudge, toffee, caramel, black cherry jam, and coffee beans jump from the glass of this flamboyant, exotic, plush Merlot. Medium to full-bodied with low acidity and ripe tannin, it represents a hedonistic blast of fruit, glycerin, alcohol, and soft tannins. Enjoy it over the next 7andndash;8 years.
Paloma's 2002 Merlot is a worthy successor to their brilliant 2001, but it is not as rich, complex, or deep as the latter vintage. The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2002 possesses lovely aromas of chocolate-infused coffee intermixed with berry and currant fruit. This lush, medium to full-bodied, delicious Merlot is ideal for drinking now and over the next 7-8 years.
An elegant, soft, velvety example of Paloma, with a deep ruby/purple-tinged color, attractive notes of caramel, mocha, sweet cherry and berry fruit, this 2003 Merlot is round and medium-bodied with no hard edges. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
The 2007 Merlot is a sumptuous, round, silky, generous, delicious effort offering plenty of berry fruit, mocha, and chocolatey undertones. Like so many wines that have emerged from this Spring Mountain vineyard, it offers delicious drinking. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years. Northern California lost the affable, highly respected proprietor Jim Richards this year, but his fans will ensure his legacy continues by supporting wines such as this.
A supple, graceful style. complex aromatics of red currant, plum and black cherry carry over to the palate, offering depth, richness and layers of flavor that unfold gradually. Tightly wound now, with firm but ripe tannins. Keeps revealing subtle flavor nuances, with hints of mineral, sage and dusty berry. Best from 2008 through 2013.
