Palmina Tocai Friulano Santa Ynez Valley Honea Vineyard 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Notes on the Palmina Tocai Friulano Honea Vineyard Santa Inez Valley 2005 : WINE ADVOCATE REVIEW: 90 POINTS A knock-out bouquet of lemon rind, tropical fruit, and honey characterizes the 2005 Tocai Friulano Honea Vineyard. This fruity, dry, medium-bodied, pure, zesty Tocai should be consumed over the next 1-2 years. Drink: 2006-2008 Wine Advocate #166 (Aug 2006) Robert ParkerNVWE NOTES: This is a decidedly rich example of an attractive Italian varietal that is seldom seen in our state. It offers aromas of honeydew melon, lemon blossom, green gage plum and honey, with gently savory undertones suggestive of nut husks or oats. The texture is plush and the flavors are as rich as expected, with honeydew and lemon cream in the foreground. There is a welcome lemony zest to the lingering and richly textured finish and some nut husk and mineral hints as well. This is a very appealing sipper, but it would be at its best with rich white-sauced pastas. 550 cases produced.PALMINA TOCAI FRIULANO HONEA VINEYARD SANTA INEZ VALLEY 2005

Palmina is more than a winery and enoteca. It is a philosophy and it is a passion. It is a strongly held belief that wine is an extension of the plate, a component of a meal and a means to bring people together. Formed by winemaker Steve Clifton in 1995, Palmina is named in honor of Steve’s great friend Paula, who taught him to love cooking, wine and the Italian lifestyle and who was a spark in Steve’s life. After Paula succumbed to breast cancer, Steve found that her given name on her Italian birth certificate was Palmina, and the winery was thus fittingly named. Read less

Wine Tasting NotesFrom the most popularly planted grape from the Friuli region of northeastern Italy, this delicate white exhibits a nose that blends sweet amaretto and honeyed aromas with lychee nut and citrus blossoms. On the palate distinct flavors of white peach blend with meyer lemon and blood orange. The balance provides a very clean and pleasing, lemon curd finish.
