Palmina Pinot Grigio Santa Barbara 2012
Editorial Reviews for Palmina Pinot Grigio Santa Barbara
Tart apple fruit and some leesy, smoky character on the nose along with some powdery minerality. Bright and tart on entry with a fine blend of lemon, pear and green apple fruit that really carries powerfully through the long acid driven finish. This has some attractive richness on the mid-palate but never loses its vibrancy and cut. Finishes with a light herbal nuance adding detail. long pear skin note on the finish. 90pts
This is cool and crisp smelling with hints of nut meat and rocks over bright yellow apple fruit. Very taut and nervous in the mouth with a lean, focused feel and wonderful balance. Beautiful and fresh citrus tinged pear fruit flows over the mid-palate yielding to a lingering mineral tinged finish. 90pts

The pale straw-like color, along with the brilliant clarity of the wine makes it seem like Pinot Grigio is dancing in your glass. A swirl unleashes a delicate bouquet of white clove and lime blossom and a granite-like minerality. At first taste, the Palmina style is evident - there is a silky yet tart texture that skips across the palate with both body and a lightness of being. Citrusy notes of lemon-lime are joined with notes of Gala apples and Bosc pears. A hint of quince, and then a remembrance of a well-made marmalade round out the flavor profile on the clean, refreshing finish.
The 2007 Pinot Grigio, Santa Barbara County is a beautifully balanced wine that showcases not only this versatile grape, but also the near perfect growing conditions of Santa Barbara County. A blend of grapes from the Alisos vineyard in the Los Alamos Valley and the Honea Vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley, the wine almost glows in the glass with a beautiful clarity and pale flaxen hue. Notes of acacia and honeysuckle mingle with Asian pear and citrus blossom on the nose. A first sip reveals a fascinating texture of both vibrant acidity and creaminess, enveloped by impressions of Fuji apple, clementines, lemon curd and hints of tropical fruit in the kiwi, key lime range. A snap of lemongrass and stony minerality are present on the long and satisfying finish. With just 12.7% alcohol, this amiable and pleasing wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif as well as a complement to a meal.
