Palmeri Syrah Napa Valley Stagecoach Vineyard 2007

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Smells peppery and beefy and faintly balsamic with floral top notes, gravelly dustiness and briary. Broad in the mouth with lots of soft black fruit. The tannins are firm but small scaled and the acidity supported but leaves the wine a bit soft across the palate. There’s a lot of fruit here, savory, lightly spicy and fruity as well with a hint of juniper to the blueberry and boysenberry fruit. The finish is large scaled, earthy at fist then turning a little chocolately and somewhat drying and frankly peppery on the finale. This is firm, powerful, yet not fruit bomby syrah worthy of further attention. Definitely not for everyone but certainly distinctive. 90pts

Palmeri wines are created by Kerry and Daisy Damskey with wisdom and passion as an expression of their dedication to what they love. Partnering with such renown grapegrowers as Jan Krupp of Stagecoach Vineyards in Napa and Denny Van Ness of Van Ness Vineyards in Geyserville, Palmeri is ensured the choicest selection of fruit with which to begin Kerry's special alchemy. The name Palmeri comes from Quercus palmeri, a small and scrappy oak that grows in the mountain ranges that Kerry Damskey gravitates to when selecting ultra-premium grape growing land. The labels for Palmeri feature the boar, the bat and the fox, epressenting the diverse fauna that is found on our hillsides. Some even refer the boar as Mr. Palmeri! He, like the wine, seems to have a special charm of his own. Kerry Damskey and Daisy Damskey hail from Sonoma County and have been in the wine business for over 25 years, Kerry as a winemaker and winery consultant and Daisy as a specialist in public relations and event planning. pepper and jam notes, a little spice, prominent tannins, would taste amazing with a hearty, savory meal, not the longest finish but very enjoyable

Pepper and blackberry aromas, a little spice on the palate, smoky finish.
