Palmeri Cabernet/Syrah Napa Valley 2004

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Big slightly jammy black currant Cabernet nose with notes of soil, black pepper, and green, grassy herbs adding complexity. Nice and focused on entry with rich fresh fruit backed up by nice medicinal spice tones and some aromatic herbal elements in the mouth. This has nice cut on the palate with the syrah gaminess emerging on the backend adding it’s meaty nuance to the rich fruit. There are nice firm tannins here and well-integrated acidity all contributing to the firm, youthful mouthfeel. The finish is long and fairly tannic with notes of coffee and black spices accenting the black fruit. Still a bit rough at this stage but with lots of power and fine balance. 92pts

Palmeri wines are created by Kerry and Daisy Damskey with wisdom and passion as an expression of their dedication to what they love. Partnering with such renown grapegrowers as Jan Krupp of Stagecoach Vineyards in Napa and Denny Van Ness of Van Ness Vineyards in Geyserville, Palmeri is ensured the choicest selection of fruit with which to begin Kerry's special alchemy. The name Palmeri comes from Quercus palmeri, a small and scrappy oak that grows in the mountain ranges that Kerry Damskey gravitates to when selecting ultra-premium grape growing land. The labels for Palmeri feature the boar, the bat and the fox, epressenting the diverse fauna that is found on our hillsides. Some even refer the boar as Mr. Palmeri! He, like the wine, seems to have a special charm of his own. Kerry Damskey and Daisy Damskey hail from Sonoma County and have been in the wine business for over 25 years, Kerry as a winemaker and winery consultant and Daisy as a specialist in public relations and event planning.
