The second wine, the outstanding 2008 Alter Ego de Palmer, a blend of 52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, is one of the finest examples of this cuvee I have tasted. With a higher proportion of Merlot than is usual even at Palmer, this wine goes for lovely fresh, soft fruits. There is a touch of spice, juicy red berries, finally getting to a depth of dusty, chewy tannins Wine Enthusiast. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2008 Chateau Palmer 750ml
Blackberry and cherry on the nose, with hints of smoke. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a silky finish. Slightly hollow midpalate. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2008 Palmer Alter Ego 750ml
51% Merlot; 41% Cabernet Sauvignon; 8% Petite Verdot. Pleasant plum notes highlighted by spearmint and licorice. Solid middle weight, tannins come off sharp and rough. David Derby. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2008 Chateau Palmer 6000ml
Winemaker's Notes:
"... a huge, inky/purple-colored wine with notes of camphor, incense, blackberry, espresso roast, and subtle barbecue smoke. Extremely full-bodied and unbelievably powerful..., this wine is going to be one of the great classics ever to emerge from this iconic chateau. It is extremely tannic, but the tannins are eclipsed by the extravagant concentration of fruit, unctuosity, and density of this wine. This will be a Chateau Palmer to put away for 10 years and drink over the following 40+...95-97" WA 05/11 "This nose is crazy with treacle tart, dark fruits, spices and milk chocolate. I was in a state of amazement tasting this. Full bodied and very powerful with wonderful ripe tannins and intense nuts and dark chocolate on the palate. This is more powerful than 2009. I am blown away...97-98" JS 04/11
