The Palmazes bought a forgotten stone winery, a fine old house badly in need of renovation, and acres of land that had once produced fine Napa wines. The little valley had been the site of Cedar Knoll Vineyard and Winery, founded in 1881 by Henry Hagen, one of Napa Valley's pioneer winemakers. Henry Hagen produced wines that garnered many awards, including a silver medal at the Paris Exposition of 1889. During that era, Cedar Knoll was one of Napa's premier wineries. The vineyards survived the Wine Country’s phylloxera infestation in the 1890s, but Prohibition was fatal. The winery fell into disrepair and the vineyards lay fallow for nearly eighty years. Today, the vineyards are burgeoning, the restored Hagen house is a family home again, and the winery has been reinvented. Read less

This is a Gold Medal Wine Club Diamond Series selection. 94 Points, Anthony Dias Blue – “The Palmaz wines are classic Napa Valley, with ripe, powerful fruit and great panache. Dark and concentrated, with lovely balance and structure; long, smooth-textured and supple with great depth and style.” 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast magazine – “Few Cabs on earth are riper than this, with its enormous flavors of black currants, cherry-pie filling, plum jam and chocolate that overwhelm the mouth with decadence. It’s modern in tannins, which are soft and finely ground, and opulent in smoky, spicy new oak. It is, in short, the very model of a Napa cult Cab.” First Place: Very Highly Recommended, California Grapevine. The rich flavors are balanced with ripe supple tannins adding elegance and complexity to the persistent finish. This wine has great potential and will continue to develop through 2014.

Despite a rustic edge the earthy dried currant and blackberry flavors at the core are tight concentrated focused and authentic with hints of blueberry and mineral showing on the finish. The tannins clamp down tight at the end. Decant for now. Best from 2011 through 2021. JL Wine Spectator.

This old ghost winery, which has been resurrected, has produced their best wine to date. Dark ruby/purple, with a nose of graphite, black currants, violets, and some chocolate, the medium to full-bodied texture of the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon builds incrementally. The fruit is pure, rich, and concentrated, the finish long and authoritative. The wine, which is very approachable now, should drink well for at least 10-15+ years. Despite a rustic edge, the earthy dried currant and blackberry flavors at the core are tight, concentrated, focused and authentic, with hints of blueberry and mineral showing on the finish. The tannins clamp down tight at the end. Decant for now. Best from 2011 through 2021. 2,900 cases made. -JL A textbook, modern Napa Cabernet that offers plenty of varietal pleasure, with blackberry, cassis, chocolate and oak flavors liberally framed in fine sweet oak, and wrapped into luxurious tannins. A little too obvious in its charms, but it could surprise dow...

A solid effort and marked improvement from the 2001. Dark, dense and sturdy, this compact, concentrated wine exhibits rich currant, mineral, sage and cedar notes.
