The Palmazes bought a forgotten stone winery, a fine old house badly in need of renovation, and acres of land that had once produced fine Napa wines. The little valley had been the site of Cedar Knoll Vineyard and Winery, founded in 1881 by Henry Hagen, one of Napa Valley's pioneer winemakers. Henry Hagen produced wines that garnered many awards, including a silver medal at the Paris Exposition of 1889. During that era, Cedar Knoll was one of Napa's premier wineries. The vineyards survived the Wine Country’s phylloxera infestation in the 1890s, but Prohibition was fatal. The winery fell into disrepair and the vineyards lay fallow for nearly eighty years. Today, the vineyards are burgeoning, the restored Hagen house is a family home again, and the winery has been reinvented. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

A previous selection for Gold Medal Wine Club-Diamond Series. Palmaz Vineyards is a family affair in the finest tradition. Julio Palmaz still spends a part of his time in the winery operation. All other family members spend 100% of their efforts on behalf of Palmaz Vineyards. The core of Palmaz Vineyards and a wine that inspired a couple to revive a legendary aspect of Napa Valley’s winemaking heritage, Cabernet Sauvignon is the soul, the charm, and the quintessence of the Palmaz family estate. Over the past eleven years, the family has developed a new standard of hands-on, natural, ultra-premium winemaking that’s constantly recognized and praised by many of the top sommeliers in the world. The 2004 Palmaz Cabernet Sauvignon is a one-of-a-kind, awe-inspiring Napa Valley Diamond that comes extremely highly recommended.

The moderately cool weather of 2008 contributed to the excellent texture and depth of this vintage. The resulting wine exhibits dense layers of silky tannins and dark fruit that will evolve beautifully. The structure of this wine promises to age elegantly with an abundance of fine grained tannins exhibiting our signature cashmere mouth feel. This is a wine that will promise to cellar extraordinarily well but at the same time if you can not wait and drink one now, you will not be disappointed. - WineryBlend:95% Cabernet Sauvignon3% Merlot2% MalbecAging: 18 months aged in French Oak, 85% new Oak, 100% French Oak

From a 19th century vineyard site on the slopes of Mount George east of the city of Napa Palmaz rises from 400 to 1 400 feet. The higher elevations bring freshness to the blend which ranges from dill to black pepper in spice from silk to plush velvet in texture. This needs bottle age or decanting to get past its youthful green edge of reduction. Then serve it with Provengal lamb and roasted tomatoes. Wine & Spirits.
