Palliser Estate Great Dogs Pinot Noir "The Great Hector" Martinborough 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

"This is a very rich, luscious and juicy Pinot Noir with spicy plum flavours, exotic oak, and considerable fine tannin structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 7-9+ years. Our premium pinot commemorates some of the finest, furriest, four-legged friends we’ve had. The seventh in the ‘Great Dog’ series, named after the pure breed Labrador ‘Hector’ belonging to Hew Blair of Justerini & Brooks, Palliser Estate’s U.K. distributor. Hector lived to the ripe old age of 16 years. Eight casks selected and blended, the wine made from clones 115, 667 and 777 from the ‘East Base’ (Pencarrow) vineyard from vines planted in 1998 and 1999, indigenous yeast fermented with 25% whole clusters to 14.0% alc., the wine on skins 16-19 days and aged 16 months in 50% new French oak barriques." -Winemaker's Notes
