External Reviews for Palacios Remondo White Blend Rioja la Montesa
The 2009 La Montesa is a blend of 65% Garnacha, 30% Tempranillo and 5% Mazuelo picked by hand from the namesake vineyard and aged 20% in new oak. It has a well-defined strawberry, Morello and shortcake-scented bouquet infused with fennel and licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, expressive red berry fruit tinged with burnt toast and white pepper, and an elegant, caressing finish that speaks of its place. This is a very commendable Rioja. Drink now–2018.
This red shows a fine balance of flesh and backbone, offering a mix of plum, cherry and loam flavors framed by licorice and spice. Not a showy wine, but dense and harmonious. Drink now through 2016.
Alvaro Palacio, has returned to his familyrsquo;s winery, Palacio Remondo, in Rioja, after the death of his father Joseacute; in 2000. Alvaro Palacio studied both at Chateau Petrus and in the Napa Valley. He is most famous for his groundbreaking winemaking in Priorat and his single vineyard Garnacha blend ldquo;Lrsquo;Ermitardquo; which sells for $400 a bottle. The 2001 La Montesa is Alvarorsquo;s first effort and it is a steal. Deeply coloured, dense, and richly perfumed, the wine has a more complex blend than many Rioja reds made from 30% Garnacha, 40% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano and 15% Mazuelo.
Full deep red. Aromatic, fresh nose combines black raspberry, cherry and a floral note. Sweet, lush and fruity, with noteworthy fat and richness. Plump and layered in the mouth, but nicely shaped by harmonious acidity. Finishes with very smooth tannins and lingering fruit.
