If you like "reasonable" full bodied wnes, this one is for you. I think I would say this wine had a nice balance to it. It doesn't hit you in the face, but it has wonderful smooth tanins with a nice long finish. The alcohol one might think would be overwhelming, but it just isn't. The fruit although forward is still subtle enough to keep you coming back to check it out. There is a nice complexity there. I think this is a wonderful wine, new world, old world, who cares as long as you like it. I think you will enjoy this one.

This is one of the best Cabernets in California. If you like a full bodied Cab with character, look no further. It changes it's body several times as it opens.

The promising, opaque purple-colored 1999 Proprietary Red is a blend of 71.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21.5% Merlot, 4% Petit-Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec. It exhibits blueberry liqueur, roasted coffee, spice, and smoky wood aromas. Broad, dense, and full-bodied, with the acidity giving it a firm edge, this chewy effort is best consumed during its first 15-18 years of life.
Pahlmeyer's proprietary red wine has been, over recent years, one of California's finest meritage wines. It will be hard to find a 1998 proprietary red wine with more flavor than what Pahlmeyer, Helen Turley, and Erin Green have produced. It is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and the rest small dollops of Cabernet Franc. Petit Verdot, and Malbec. There are limited quantities of the 1998 because much of the wine has to be declassified in order to produce something this full-bodied, intense, and concentrated. Atypical for the vintage, it reveals greater richness, ripeness, and unctuosity than most of its peers. Dark purple-colored, with copious amounts of flashy coffee, black currant, prune, chocolate, and jammy notes, this multidimensional, full-bodied, highly-extracted wine is beautifully balanced,. but on a fast evolutionary track.
The 1998 Proprietary Red is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit-Verdot, and 1% Malbec. A sexy, up-front, plush wine with a deep purple color, medium to full body, and copious quantities of sweet blackberry, creme de cassis, and meaty notes, it is on a fast evolutionary track, and thus should be consumed over the next 10-12 years.
Deftly balanced, rich and elegant, with creamy currant, mocha, herb, blackberry and anise flavors, keeping a tight, supple focus and lingering on the finish.
The finest proprietary red produced by Pahlmeyer to date is their 1997 (a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and the rest Petit-Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec). Production is 3,300 cases, and the wine tips the scales at 14.7% alcohol. A super-rich, blockbuster effort, it exhibits an opaque purple color in addition to a fabulous bouquet of black fruits, espresso, cocoa, mocha, and flowers. A prodigious red, with low acidity, spectacular concentration, and fabulous purity as well as overall symmetry, it can be drunk now, but promises to last 20-25 years.
Packs in layers of black cherry, anise, blackberry and plum, showing a sense of elegance and finesse. Firms up on the finish, where the tannins are tight and spicy. Best from 2001 through 2010.
The 2005 Proprietary Red is significantly better than what I tasted last year, although I certainly gave it a high score. This wine has fleshed out beautifully.
