Velvet purple-red in color. Roses, Blueberries, and some barnyard funk on the nose. Fleshy mouthfeel on the palate with vibrant acidity. Good, tasty blue and red fruit on the mid-palate. Medium finish with a good blast of fruit and some alcohol showing. Definitely enjoyed this bottle, and I should note that the barnyard funk started to blow off after about 30 minutes, and was all but gone after an hour. 93 points

The 1999 Merlot (100% Merlot, 1,650 cases) is rich and ripe, but it is doubtful that it will achieve mind-boggling proportions. The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 offers smoky, licorice, cherry, and chocolatey aromas, medium to full body, good acidit... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Merlot wine from California in USA. 1999 Pahlmeyer Merlot 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

Release Date: February 1, 2002 Alcohol: 14.8 % pH: 3.89 TA: 0.55 Composition: 12% Napa Valley, 37% Howell Mountain, 36% Carneros, 15% Atlas Peak Tasting Notes: Impenetrable and inky - purple in color, the nose offers aromas of ripe, smoky plum, cherry, anise, oak, and port like sweetness. The palate is full bodied and structured with a finish that has length and intensity. Winemaking Notes: The 1999 vintage was a fine year for Napa Valley. Although the crop was smaller than the 1998, the harvest offered fruit with intense richness, acidity and wonderful density. Grapes for the 1999 Pahlmeyer Merlot were harvested in early October. The wine, consisting of 100% Merlot, was aged in new Taransaud French oak barrels for eighteen months before being bottled in April of 2001. Ten months of bottle ageing has allowed it to develop beautifully in the bottle.
