Chiroubles comes from vines at higher elevation that produce delicate wines and Pacalet's minimalist style of winemaking preserves this ethereal quality. A touch funky on the nose with a gamy edge to the wooly, wet cotton, rainwater tones that features an intriguing touch of dried thyme. This is a bit more structured in the mouth with lots of sweet yet indistinct fruit that is slightly pruny.It is very aromatic in the mouth but a bit short on the finish. 86pts

Christophe Pacalet:
After some works in biochemistry and cooking, Christophe PACALET creates, in 1999 with his uncle Marcel LAPIERRE, the field “Les Marcellins”. It must be said, faithful to the philosophy of his uncle, Christophe leaves nothing to chance. Concerned about the quality of his wines and respectful of the environment, Christophe does his utmost to obtain the best grapes that he harvests and sorts with his team.

Starts out with an intricate nose of mushrooms and earth, with tobacco undertones. There's a bit of volatile acidity, but that dies down and past it the fruit flavors take hold. Plums primarily. Good solid, tannic, finish with a graham cracker pie crust flavor. Very nice.

Hints of leather and tar over cherries on the nose leading to initial flavors of sweetness, black tea, spice, & earth that make way for berry flavors finishing with soft flannel tannins.

Great nose of cinnamon, cherry and leather. Fresh taste, with violets, cherry and some spiciness. Good acidity. Very tasty.

A wine of character with distinct terroir. It has an earthy edge, but it’s the fruit that shines here: ripe raspberries, orange rind, cherry, and a touch of musk. Very fresh and very pretty, yet maintaining a mien of rusticity, the wine is produced organically, with no sulphur added.

Moulin-à-Vent in the able hands of Christophe Pacalet renders a deliciously dark fruited yet lithe type of Beaujolais. His signature is fruit-forwardness and all around purity of character. While Moulin-à-Vent is knowns as the richest of all Crus, this one carries itself with finesse.

This Côte de Brouilly, one of the 10 "Crus" of Beaujolais, is so beautifully concentrated and generous in fruit. Enjoy the forward raspberry and dark cherry fruit today or feel free to cellar this for a few years. Unfiltered. Organic.
