Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Member Review by raindance:

Binny's 6/2017. Mary loved it and I was very close to saying the same. NZ, just does not export crap. Other countries can learn from their system. California, gets a pass, although they could secede from the Union and would then have to compete with a better value product at the low end of the price scale.

Oyster Bay Wines:
Internationally-recognised for producing "elegant, assertive wines with glorious fruit flavours", Oyster Bay is also a winemaker with great viticultural vision. It was Oyster Bay that had the foresight, over two decades ago, to recognise the enormous wine-growing potential that lay beneath the stony, alluvial soils of a marginal sheep farming district in New Zealand's Hawkes Bay. Today that region is producing New Zealand's finest merlots.

Grapefruit on the nose, grapefruit on the palate. Short tart finish. Paired well with buffalo chicken.

This is a lighter style wine with a shorter finish than is common for NZ Sauv Blancs. Some pungent Gardenia and cat pee in the nose but this wine falls short of their other vintages. My rating 84.

Straw bright, lovely aromas of grapefruit, gooseberries and cut wet grass; lively fruit notes of grapefruit, stone fruit and oily citrus, broadly dancing across the palate to a reasonably long and refreshing finish. A Consistently Fine Value.

The philosophy of Oyster Bay is to produce fine, distinctly regional wines that are elegant and assertive with glorious fruit flavours. It all starts in the vineyard. We treat each vineyard block and parcel of wine individually. The fruit is crushed, gently pressed and the juice is cold settled. A long, slow temperature controlled fermentation and immediate bottling after winemaking, retains all the wonderful fruit flavours and aromas that are present. Pale straw green in colour with brilliant clarity, Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is zesty and aromatic with lots of lively fruit characters. A concentration of assertive passionfruit and tropical fruit flavours with an abundant bouquet, it is a wine that is always crisp, elegant and refreshing. - Winery

Medium-bodied with bright grapefruit and lemon and hints of orange zest. Strong aromas of fresh-cut grass give way to a dry, green pepper finish.

A lean and herbal style, offering plenty of fresh green notes that balance out the lemon, grapefruit and floral tones, with nervy acidity. Finishes on a pithy note. Drink now. Tasted twice with consistent notes.
