Food Pairings for Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc
Tasted at UNLVino 4/10/10
One of my absolute favorite wines for the price -- and an exemplar of the New Zealand Sauvignon blanc style. Citrusy, crisp, fruity but not sweet, light, and tart; it complements everything from seafood to Thai.
This wine is a great value for the price point of under 11 bucks. Its got an extremely fragrant grapefruit and citrus nose that just leaps out of the glass. The taste is one of up front fruit and then followed by a ripping sharp acidity. And a long juicy supple finish. A great aperitif and a great food pairing wine. This is both a very yummy summer porch wine or a fantastic seafood pairing wine. One I will certainly go for again when jonesing for that crisp acidic wine.
External Reviews for Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc
A light grassy nose: commercial but clean. The palate is clean, slightly vegetal, good acidity with crisp lime on the finish. Does what it says on the tin. Drink now. Tasted January 2008.
Fleshy, with very good concentration to yellow apple, quince and grass flavors wrapped in stony notes and grapefruit-lime acidity. Drink now.
With a nose of quince and cut grass, this stony white fleshes out nicely on the palate with robust grapefruit, green apple, and fresh lime flavors.
Why is Oyster Bay so popular? Well, the price is great, that always helps. Then there's the light body and bright acidity, which is always refreshing on a hot day, and helps it to pair well with many light dishes. The flavors are great: delicious, fresh citrus and tropical fruit notes, highlighted with fresh dill and chive. But really, the main reason we sell so much Oyster Bay is that each of these elements are present year after year, making this Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc a consistent winner and always a safe choice!
New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc is often suggested as an alternative to Chardonnay. Its incredibly bright flavor, snappy acidity and fresh, easy feel are a perfect contrast to the rich, buttery full-bodied style of Chardonnay that is most popular. The citrus, pineapple and kiwi fruit tones most common in New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc are paired with intensely green aromatics that recall gooseberries, freshly cut grass, and jalapeños, offering an unusual and unusually compelling blend of savory and sweet that has found a huge following.
Good pale color. Aromas of grapefruit pith, oregano and curry powder, plus a slightly sweaty sauvignon note. Juicy but not hard, with fresh acidity framing the rather delicate soft citrus flavors. Needs to be served with food.
Tart and tangy, with very good intensity to grass, grapefruit and green apple flavors. Drink now.
Pale straw green in colour with brilliant clarity, Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is zesty and aromatic with lots of lively fruit characters. A concentration of assertive passionfruit and tropical fruit flavours with an abundant bouquet, it is a wine that is always crisp, elegant and refreshing.
