Oyster Bay Pinot Noir Nz 2008
Internationally-recognised for producing "elegant, assertive wines with glorious fruit flavours", Oyster Bay is also a winemaker with great viticultural vision. It was Oyster Bay that had the foresight, over two decades ago, to recognise the enormous wine-growing potential that lay beneath the stony, alluvial soils of a marginal sheep farming district in New Zealand's Hawkes Bay. Today that region is producing New Zealand's finest merlots.
Tasty, elegant, and strong pinot noir that could stand up to simple beef dishes e.g. tri-tip. Has light spice and fruit on the nose and abundant sweet fruit in the mouth with some mineral, citrus, wood, and oil. Strong in the mid-palate with almost a glycerin feel. Not too complex but has enough fruit to pair with light meat dishes. Off dry, medium body, medium acidity with good balance. Good value for the money.

Fruity, yet this was too hot for me. Thought the finish was like wood polish.
An interesting, flavorful wine that definitely benefits from some air. I find the nose somewhat unappealing but there is some nice, unique sweet strawberry / raspberry flavors on the palate (2008). 88 pts after a long breathing
Pours a very light clear red in color and excited to try this I have been very much enjoying new zealand pinot noirs as of late. Lots of strawberry and sweet raspberry smells on the nose, Definitely a touch of creaminess from the french oak can be noticed too. Alot of sweet fruit on the first taste, dominated mainly by sweet sugar coated strawberry flavors and creaminess. Light to medium bodied with a somewhat short finish. Very lively with very mild tannins and some light acidity. The finish is some what short and disappointing. Overall this is a non offensive wine but its a little over the top light and weak in flavor lacking a complexity you hope for. Though uncommon for me to ever say this I am even wondering if maybe this is slightly overoaked and hiding some of its true fruit. Its easy drinking but certainly you can do better even at a cheaper price from new zealand. Would go back for the Oyster Bay Sauvignon blanc but cant say I d go back to there pinot noir. This is a red I would just drink on its own as its very easy drinking. I had to re-edit this, as I let this bottle work its way down on me it grew on me crazily, i learned a lesson with this bottle. Its absolutely delicious with gorgeous and elegant fruit. Its just so delicious and reminded everything i love about the super easy drinking of new zealand pinot noirs which still are not a great value.

A step up in quality from the 2004, and a step down in price make this Pinot a hit any way you slice it. Black cherry and plum fruit is balanced by hints of menthol and vanilla from oak. It's on the full-bodied, muscular side and admittedly a bit chunky, but does show fine dusty tannins and decent length on the finish.

New Zealand's cool climate is proving to be superb for Pinot Noir, bringing depth of flavor and complexity that's hard to achieve in warmer regions. This delightful Marlborough Pinot grabbed the attention of the Wine Spectator editors who scored it 91 points saying "Light, polished and highly perfumed, with lavender and spice overtones to the currant and cherry flavors, lingering easily. Drink now through 2014." For under $20 you won't want to miss this gorgeous Pinot.
