What to Expect

Sauvignon Blanc has a long history in France, and is even one of the parents of the most famous grape of all, Cabernet Sauvignon. Though having achieved high levels of acceptance and popularity in France, Sauvignon Blanc was more commonly associated with specific regions or villages, Pouilly Fume for example. With its arrival in new Zealand, and the country's ability to draw out a level of intensity from the grape, it was poised for bigger and better things. New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc is often suggested as an alternative to Chardonnay. Its incredibly bright flavor, snappy acidity and fresh, easy feel are a perfect contrast to the rich, buttery full-bodied style of Chardonnay that is most popular. The citrus, pineapple and kiwi fruit tones most common in New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc are paired with intensely green aromatics that recall gooseberries, freshly cut grass, and jalapenos, offering an unusual and unusually compelling blend of savory and sweet that has found a huge following.

Reviews

Versatile in pairings, but really shines with hearty pork and vegetable dishes. With $10 wines like this, there's little reason to spend more than $25 on anything but champagne in the current market.

Pale yellow in colour, to the nose it brings delicate, aromatic scents of flowers. To the palate it is crisp, with surprising structure, pleasant acidity and hints of tropical fruit and citrus. Above all the mineral notes, lingering in a long end. Surprising for such a young wine to be like this. I would match it with spicy seafood.

Randomly came across this steadfast blanc. Floral and smooth... accompanies a spicy meal if that's your style...

Light straw color. Bouquet of tropical fruits. If you are looking for a dry sauvignon blanc, this is for you. Tastes of green apples, lemon, and mineral.

Pale straw green in colour with brilliant clarity, Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is zesty and aromatic with lots of lively, penetrating fruit characters. A concentration of tropical and gooseberry flavours with an abundant bouquet, it is a wine that is always crisp, elegant and refreshing.
