Oyster Bay Chardonnay Marlborough 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

The philosophy of Oyster Bay is to produce fine, distinctively regional wines that are elegant and assertive with glorious fruit flavours. Oyster Bay Marlborough Chardonnay truly captures the character of Marlborough with pure, incisive, ripe fruit flavours. A combination of barrel and tank fermentation and the stirring of yeast lees achieves maximum softness, integration and texture. To retain all the natural assertiveness and flavour, no malolactic fermentation takes place. Clonal influences in the vineyard have been very important, providing smaller berries and enhanced flavour intensity.

Oyster Bay Wines:
Internationally-recognised for producing "elegant, assertive wines with glorious fruit flavours", Oyster Bay is also a winemaker with great viticultural vision. It was Oyster Bay that had the foresight, over two decades ago, to recognise the enormous wine-growing potential that lay beneath the stony, alluvial soils of a marginal sheep farming district in New Zealand's Hawkes Bay. Today that region is producing New Zealand's finest merlots.

A satisfyingly crisp Chardonnay from the prestigious Marlborough region of New Zealand. A tad herbaceous with a zesty mouthful of pear and citrus.

An enjoyable NZ Chardonnay characterized by apple and slight honey on the nose. Needs a bit more acid to balance it. Average amount of fruit seen. This wine needs more extract to match their 2008 wine. My rating -- 88

Nice clean temperate climate Chardonnay with muted toasted oak and good apple-pear flavor notes. Decent quality for the price and improving.

Cool, crisp, refreshing but apart from a slightly clean initial taste, I don't see it being that spectacular and pretty much run of the mill Chardonnay. Its ok but fairly standard.

Crisp, zesty white with citrus and apples flavours. Smoky backdrop of oak flavours, perhaps overwhelming the freshness of the wine.

Tangy, with orange blossom and intense, bright lemony flavors, showing touches of mineral and herb on the tart finish. Drink now.

Lightly oaked to add hints of vanilla, buttered toast and caramel, but with no malolactic fermentation, so the wine maintains its brilliant acidity. Nicely balanced, with bright tropical fruit flavors. Good with grilled chicken or pasta.

The nose is filled with attractive toasty oak aromas mixes with a touch of butter. Medium bodied and fruit forward with a creamy texture; the palate shows tangy fruit and just the right amount of acidity that balances well with the oak.
