Ovene Winery Chardonnay Santa Rita Hills Sta. Rita Hills 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

LIMITED SHIPPING AREA! Ships ONLY to addresses in CA, ID, IL, IA, MN, MO, NM and WV. Sorry! Tasting Panel Notes: Nose - The nose is the first indication that one is about to enjoy a Chardonnay made in today's lighter style, with good acidity, barely discernable RS (0.1%) and incredible lushness from a scant 4% Muscat Canelli which amplifies the aroma until you can almost hear it. Palate - Unctuous, with viscosity that comes from the initial cold soak - too cold to begin fermentation, but a great way to pull the flavors of the grape into the juice. Look for ripe apple and pear, mango and quince. Subtle oak adds a nice touch. The Winemaker I feel a certain kinship for successful business people who decide to abandon their well-known money stream in favor of their passion. People such as Jeff and Genni White at Ovene Winery. Although Jeff began his career as a wine salesman, it wasn't until the mid 80's that he began to make wine at home. Jeff enjoys great success at his current job, but his home winemaking grew each year until he finally outgrew his garage back in the late 90's, moving into his first leased space. He now leases space in an even larger facility, and one

Ovene Winery produces World Class Central Coast Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our first release is a Rose of Syrah. This wine is reminiscent of the great Roses of Provence and Bandol on the French Riviera. Our Rose of Syrah is a complex blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and a touch of Muscat. It is best served chilled and enjoyed on a hot summer afternoon, at festive barbeques, or at the beach with friends. Winemaking is a convergence of Nature, Art, and Science. Mother Nature gives us the weather for the vintage which defines the character of the fruit. The best vineyards are sourced, the lots carefully sorted, and the grapes become wine with loving care. State of the Art equipment is used to process the wine which is aged in French and American oak barrels. The Winemakers craft is putting the pieces of the puzzle together. Ovene Winery is the culmination of a lifetime of our family’s passion for food and wine. Ovene is dedicated to my Grandmother Merthel Ovene McConnel. Granny was an inspiration to several generations who taught us the love of God, family values, traditions and a passion for food and wine. She was known as Groovy Granny as we were growing up and told us we could accomplish anything we set our minds to. She blessed this venture despite her failing health at 94 and passed away the day after we received our first grapes and bonded winery license. We are blessed to dedicate Ovene Winery to all the inspirational women in our lives. Groovy Granny always said to save the best for last. This puzzle is now complete. The only piece missing is you. Enjoy, Mr. Ovene Read less
