Fair amount of wood here, making this spicy on the nose and rich with vanilla, chocolate and coffee bean aromas. Smooth and polished if dense in the mouth, with nice power behind the slightly leather dark raspberry, blackberry fruit that's framed with oak and earth notes. This finishes with lots of power and richness, but it’s also quite tannic and dry at the same time. A bit heavy-handed. 88 points

User Reviews for Outpost Zinfandel Howell Mountain

Winemaker's Notes:

91-93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): The 2011 Zinfandel bursts from the glass with juicy dark cherries, menthol, violets, licorice and tobacco. A beguiling, totally intriguing wine, the 2011 impresses for its fabulous balance and overall harmony. Hints of savory herbs and orange peel lend an element of exoticism that is particularly attractive. This is striking juice. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (Dec 2012)
