Harmonious cherry, blueberry, prune, floral, cocoa, limestone, clay, tobacco and oak aromas make the nose on this gorgeous wine a vivid and memorable experience. The palate opens with trumpets of succulent cherry and blueberry, heightened in intensity by extended notes of pepper and sweet licorice. Chocolate and leather intertwine to add richness to the medley, with notes appearing through a zingy but not overpowering acidity. The purity of the individual notes is sustained and supported by strong tannins, allowing the arrangement to stay complex and avoid a muddy collision in the middle of the palate. The complex array of tastes spreads and evolves over five hours, peaking at three hours and producing an extraordinary and lively jazz rondo that keeps developing its themes, with a strong bright tart cherry bell that keeps ringing and re-ringing, then exploding like a sweet and sour version of wasabi. Opulence at its best, with precision and control.
Aromatic nose. Chewy tannins with tasty fruit of dark berries without much sugar and a rather elegant balance with some lively acidity showing. The notes of cedar and forest floor are what I appreciated the most, giving this wine some character to it. Picked up a slight bit of heat but the other components more than make up for it. Light to medium bodied, perhaps making this a very good social wine. Hope to check back in a couple years. 94 points.
Nose has sweet licorice tones up front with red and black berries and a nice woody character. Also, creme de cassis, rocks and blueberry. Nice sweetness. Pure fruit framed by great tannins. Nice depth and it lingers well. - Tasted at Marché Bacchus 6/5/10

A dense ruby/purple color is followed by earthy, plum, cassis, and licorice aromas as well as flavors, fine body, and an austere, tannic, mountain-styled personality. Patience will be required as it needs 2-3 years of bottle age. It should evolve over the following 14-15 years.
Dark, full-bodied and rich, with well-detailed black currant and cocoa flavors and a flamboyant but balanced coating of new oak. Impresses not only for its power, but for the soft luxury of its mouth feel. Beautiful now, and best over the next 5 years to capture in its youth.
Similarly opaque purple in color, but with notes of minerals, blue and black fruits, and slightly more austere tannins, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is full-bodied, powerful, tannic, and structured. It is the perfect foil to the more flamboyant and supple Mt. Veeder Cabernet. The Howell Mountain cuvèe can be drunk now because of its sweetness of fruit and ripe tannin, but it will be even better with 2-4 years of bottle age, and should keep for 15 more years.
The only 2006 I tasted is a re-evaluation of the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, which is performing better now than it did last year. A dense purple color in addition to plenty of creme de cassis, crushed rock, blueberry, and brioche-like n... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Wonderful purity of fruit, harmony and finesse, this is simply a fun wine to drink. Ripe, rich and fleshy, it exhibits a tight beam of currant, black cherry and wild berry that complex and concentrated, finishing with fine-grained tannins and a sense of authenticity. Best from 2006 through 2012.

Bright ruby-red. Highly aromatic nose combines cassis, cherry and violet; very Napa Valley cabernet in its perfumed black fruit character. Then creamy-rich and sweet but vibrant on the palate, with a slightly medicinal quality lifted by notes of rose petal and violet. Finishes focused, firm and long, with suave tannins and lingering fruit.
