O'Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

94+ points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is all minerals, graphite and pure Howell Mountain. Layers of dark red fruit come to life in this articulate, pedigreed Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2009 needs another few years in the bottle, but it is already quite striking, especially with some time in the glass. Saline notes frame the long finish. The 2009 is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% St. Macaire and 2% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. (Dec 2011)

The Genesis of the O'Shaughnessy Estate Winery occurred a decade ago when our family began a search for mountainside land with appropriate soils, exposure, and climate, capable of producing intense, full flavored Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. In 1996 after years of searching, we arrived on a parcel of land on Howell Mountain. The views were breathtaking; we looked out over mountain peaks, and valleys of green. We stepped out of our vehicle, knelt down, picked up a handful of red rocky soil, and our hearts said, "This is the land, pursue your dream here. Plant your vines: they will thrive on these south sloping hillsides." We had reached our goal, the first of many milestones on our continuum to becoming a family winery. Read less

Amazing! I can't say enough good things about this wine. Just wonderful structure, bouquet, and a finish that goes on forever. O'Shaughnessy does Cabernets better than anybody....and this vintage is no different! Enjoy! Cheers!

Good deep bright ruby.  Expressive but cool nose offers cassis, violet and mint. Suave, concentrated and spicy, with licorice, mineral and oak flavors currently holding the upper hand over the wine's fruit flavors. The first tannins show some youthful toughness and will require at least five years of patience.

O'Shaugnessy Cabernet from Howell Mountain is layered and seamless in the 2009 vintage. Expressive fruit concentrations on the palate of black cherry, blueberry and cassis are followed by a long complex finish with balanced tannins.
