Orzada Cabernet Sauvignon Odfjell Maipo Valley 2013

External Review by WineExpress.com:

When the Norwegian shipowner Dan Odfjell founded this winery, he embarked upon anadventure filled with challenge and promise. Orzada is a nautical term for sailing up against the wind before setting a direction. Orzada wines reflect staking a course in pursuit of a beautiful and memorable wine. Sourced fromn18 year old organic vines in the Maipo Valley. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Organic Syrah aged 10 months in 19% new French oak barrels, 18% new American oak barrels and 63% in two year old barrels. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this 91 points saying "Deep black-fruit aromas are saturated and poised. On the palate, this is a bit jammy and pulpy but it delivers. Extracted flavors of blackberry, coffee and blackened oak finish with depth and lushness. Drink through 2020." and James Suckling scored it 92 points saying "Orange peel and black currant aromas follow through to a full body with chewy yet velvety tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Drink now or hold."

Born of rain in Bergen, Norway, he could not resist the attraction of the austral sun in this Virgilian setting. Serendipity would later show that he had found land in Chile's premium red wine producing valley, where vitis vinifera has been cultivated since the 17th century. And where a soothing coastal breeze produces a microclimate conducive to distinct and beautiful wines. This was the start of our journey, the start of what we today know as Odfjell Vineyards.
