Ortman Family Vineyards Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills Sta. Rita Hills Fiddlestix 2007

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Smoky and spicy on the nose with well integrated balsamic notes supporting light cherry and raspberry fruit streaked with vanilla. This develops a gentle herbal edge along with some more pronounced, spicy and almondy oak tones. Lithe and light upfront with some sinewy muscle that quickly asserts itself across the palate. Very well balanced with good intensity of flavor in a lean, fresh package. There's a nice intensity to the black raspberry fruit on the palate with more cherry tones emerging on the crisp, mineral, earthy, and gently smoky finish, which ends with a nice fruity finale. A nicely pure, decidedly fresh Pinot that packs in a lot of flavor and complexity without being heavy or sweet. The more I sat with this wine the more impressed I became with it's purity of fruit and length. A wine that deserves time to linger with. 91pts

Our winery is founded on four decades of experience, two generations of winemakers and family roots that reach deep into California agriculture. We are based in San Luis Obispo, in the heart of the Central Coast wine country, where we have been making wine for 25 years. Our wines are made by the father-and-son winemaking team of Chuck Ortman and Matt Ortman. Chuck brings extensive experience and artistry to the winemaking program. Matt complements Chuck with a knack for craftsmanship and a thirst for new ideas. Together, they advance the acclaimed “Ortman style,” which emphasizes richness, elegance and cuisine compatibility. We specialize in varietals that excel in distinguished local appellations, including Chardonnay from Edna Valley, Pinot Noir from Santa Rita Hills and Syrah from Paso Robles. Our winemaking approach is guided by a devotion to quality in the vineyard and in the cellar. We are ultimately inspired by our surroundings, by the unique and versatile terrain of the Central Coast, and the excellence of select individual vineyards. It is the magic of these vineyards that we strive to capture in our wines. Read less

Extremely smooth and enjoyable. Wonderful flavor, and almost too easy to drink. Was great with dinner at a 5 Star Restaurant.
