Food Pairings for Orogeny Pinot Noir Green Valley
This Pinot was good and we enjoyed it, but for the price, I would buy a Byron or a Kenneth Volk.
Robust smoked oak laced with coriander, cinnamon and nutmeg. Bright cherry is dominated by oak at first taste, but then does develop in the glass. Hearty for a pinot noir, medium soft body.
Nothing special. I'd pass
Got is as a gift for some Radiohead tickets. Good wine, a little bit of dirt (soil) flavor.

Rating: 86/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. There is a lot going on in this wine, but its idiosyncratic mix of red berries, root beer and sweet tea and spice pushes it wide of any classic varietal mark. It is similarly goes a little outside the lines with respect to its dense, slightly heavy feel, but it is saved by a bit of last-minute acid and is an interesting wine if never quite believable as Pinot.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
Tight and a touch green in both its aromas and flavors, this lean and ungenerous wine wants for richness and depth. It is long on acidity and short on flesh, and, while time in the bottle may help smooth off its very obvious edges, it is destined to remain a taut and underfilled wine.
winemaker's notes:Orogeny Green Valley Pinot Noir shows bright Bing cherry, pomegranate and toffee notes on the nose, with a hint of spicy oak layered with ginger, nutmeg and coriander. On the palate, the bright cherry flavors dominate, supported by lively notes of blackberry and blueberry that linger on the candied-cherry finish. The lush fruit continues to develop with time in the glass. This lovely wine pairs perfectly with seared duck breast with cherry sauce, pork tenderloin with pear-ginger chutney or wild mushroom risotto.90 Points - Wine News"Typical faded garnet hue. Candied cherry fruit, charred oak and sweet tobacco aromas. Generous red fruit flavors followed by drying, peppery tannins. Youthful finish with dusty, mineral-like accents and lingering toasted oak." -August/September 200891 Points - PinotReport"Medium ruby color; spice, plum and some forest floor aromas; rich, ripe, plum and cherry flavors; earthy notes; some sweet oak; good structure and balance; long finish. A rich and ripe Pinot with enough complexity to work well at the table."
