Ornellaia 2014

External Review:

The 2011 Le Volte dell Ornellaia is juicy expressive and radiant in this vintage. Sweet dark cherries flowers tobacco and mint all flesh out in a wine that impresses for its harmony and supple gracious personality. At times Le Volte has been a bit different in style than the rest of the wines here but the 2011 is quite similar to the rest of the range. In 2011 Le Volte is 50% Merlot 30% Sangiovese and 20% other grapes. Antonio Galloni.

Another impressive effort from the celebrated Ornellaia estate. it opens with aromas of black berries, plum, blue flower and hints of balsamic herbs. The rich palate delivers a core of fleshy black cherry accented with notes of licorice, black pepper and mocha alongside bracing but refined tannins. It’s still young so give it time to fully develop. Drink 2016–2031.

The 2011 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia lives up to the legacy of this important wine, thanks to its extreme intensity and its skillfully crafted bouquet. The excellent quality of fruit stands clear, despite the heat of the vintage, with pristine notes of dark cherry, exotic spice and chocolate. This expression of Ornellaia is composed of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. The results are nothing short of exuberant and this vintage will reward both those who decided to drink it early, as well as those who have the patience to wait. The only slight ruffle in this otherwise gorgeous presentation is the 2011 tannin that feels a touch aggressive. For that reason, its probably better to put the wine aside in your cellar.

The 2011 Le Serre Nuove is striking for its beauty and symmetry. Some vintages of Le Serre Nuove are open and radiant others are more structured. The 2011 seems to bring together elements of both in a wine of superb pedigree and pure class. Mocha dark raspberries tobacco and grilled herbs all flesh out on the inviting vivid finish. Today the 2011 is absolutely singing and points to a spectacular vintage at Tenuta dell Ornellaia. This is impressive juice. In 2011 the blend is 57% Merlot 17%

A gorgeous wine the 2011 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuovo dell-Ornellaia (57% Merlot 17% Cabernet Sauvignon 14% Petit Verdot and 12% Cabernet Franc) opens with an inky dark almost impenetrable appearance and beautifully chiseled - but abundantly intense - aromas of blackberry dried cherry rum cake leather moist pipe tobacco and chewy black licorice. The balance and harmony are seductive and impressive and the wine lasts many long seconds on the palate. Noticeable tannic backbone gives us ho

The estate s 2011 Masseto overtakes the senses with waves of fruit. A rich super-ripe jammy wine the 2011 is explosive full-bodied and intense from start to finish. It will be interesting to see how the 2011 develops once it goes into bottle but my impression is that will always be a flashy extroverted wine. Antonio Galloni.

A wine with a dense palate and ripe and round tannins. Full and very intense with a velvety textured tannin structure and a long and flavorful finish. Give it two or three years to show even more. Bordeaux blend. Superb second wine from Ornellaia. James Suckling.
