Ornellaia 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2011 Poggio alle Gazze is the most gorgeous version of this wine I have tasted in some years since this wine was re-introduced commercially in 2008. Intensely varietal, the 2011 is vivid and wonderfully alive in the glass. Sage, tomato leaf, crushed rocks and peaches all meld together in a wine of exceptional class. Over time, the generous quality of the vintage comes through as the wine fleshes out beautifully. The 2011 includes a dollop of Viognier. The coast of Tuscany is hardly the ideal place to make aromatic whites, but Ornellaia has done a fabulous job with their Poggio alle Gazze...91" Antonio Galloni 8/13

A wine with a dense palate and ripe and round tannins. Full and very intense with a velvety textured tannin structure and a long and flavorful finish. Give it two or three years to show even more. Bordeaux blend. Superb second wine from Ornellaia. James Suckling.

A dense muscular style packed with black cherry plum and spice flavors. Stays fresh with focused acidity and balanced tannins. Merlot Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2015 through 2022.

A dark and inky red, featuring violet, black currant, cedar, sandalwood and iron aromas and flavors. Nonetheless, this comes across as elegant, even as the tannins prove formidable on the finish. A terrific young wine in the making. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2017 through 2035.

The 2011 Le Volte dell Ornellaia (a 50-30-20 blend of Merlot Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon) is a gorgeous and silky smooth red wine that imparts bright tones of red cherry blackberry sweet spice and chocolate. The wine-s youthful freshness and fruit-forward mouthfeel is ultimately what makes it such a pleasure to drink. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. - Monica Larner Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

The 2011 Ornellaia is another gorgeous wine. Mocha plums tobacco and licorice blossom from the glass in a rich seamless wine endowed with stunning depth. Savory notes develop later adding depth and resonance. The 2011 looks to have a broad drinking window that is sure to provide many stages of pleasure over the next 20+ years. The blend is approximately 55% Cabernet Sauvignon 29% Merlot 10% Cabernet Franc and 7% Petit Verdot. 96+ Antonio Galloni.

Another impressive effort from the celebrated Ornellaia estate. it opens with aromas of black berries, plum, blue flower and hints of balsamic herbs. The rich palate delivers a core of fleshy black cherry accented with notes of licorice, black pepper and mocha alongside bracing but refined tannins. It’s still young so give it time to fully develop. Drink 2016–2031.

The 2011 Le Volte dell Ornellaia is juicy expressive and radiant in this vintage. Sweet dark cherries flowers tobacco and mint all flesh out in a wine that impresses for its harmony and supple gracious personality. At times Le Volte has been a bit different in style than the rest of the wines here but the 2011 is quite similar to the rest of the range. In 2011 Le Volte is 50% Merlot 30% Sangiovese and 20% other grapes. Antonio Galloni.
