Food Pairings for Orin Swift Zinfandel "Saldo" California
Another blockbuster from Dave Phinney of Orin Swift...delicious.
Wow. Damn near perfect.
Dark nose, not very expressive. Peppery cassis and blackberry. On the palate, flavors of ripe strawberry and black fruits with nicely integrated oak. Mouth coating entry with nice structure and good acidity. Long finish with soft tannins and subtle oak sweetness. The tangy dark berry fruit is layered with pepper. Savory aftertaste. 6/9/12
A delicious Zinfandel (rare that I adore a Zinfandel). Lush, dark fruits, pepper and spice. On the dry side but good balance and lovely from start to soft, lingering finish. Have some to cellar; post wine tasting had to break open a bottle with dinner and asiago cheese and gala apples both paired up nicely. From the nose (harsh, dark, rather strongly of alcohol even well-breathed in proper glass) would not have expected such a delightful wine.
I asked the man for a Zinfandel like the Rombauer Zin. For $26.75, I sure need a lot more. It was just another zin. Major flaw is being overpriced.
This is a great bottle for those who enjoy zin. Spicy, fruit forward and very big. I love this style and this wine.
Some sharp cheese nose, like a hard parmesan. Some sulfur tones on the nose. Lots of salinity on the palate. White pepper. Spice. Some straw. Red berries show through, but it's a tad unbalanced for me. - Tasted at Schreiner's Winers zin tasting 9/18/10

Opaque purple hue. The nose is classic zinfandel, with gobs of freshly crushed blackberry and olallieberry aromas along with hints of black olive and Pittsburgh steak. The palate explodes with dark berry fruit, along with an ample amount of cracked p... Neil Mechanic. A Zinfandel wine from California in USA. 2010 Orin Swift Saldo 750ml
