Opaque purple hue. The nose is classic zinfandel, with gobs of freshly crushed blackberry and olallieberry aromas along with hints of black olive and Pittsburgh steak. CaliforniaOrin Swift Saldo is another must-try Zin-driven wine gem from a gifted and fast-rising winemaker, Dave Phinney. Through the success of The Prisoner, winemaker Dave Phinney has gained access to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in the Northern California growing community. In Saldo there are grapes from Sonoma, Napa, Amador, Mendocino, and Contra Costa counties from great vineyards including Aparicio, Duarte, Pato, Eagle Point, Mattern, Taylor, Haywood and Tofanelli. The word "saldo" has many different meanings in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. In Spanish, it mainly refers to "balance on hand", and sometimes it can mean "from here and there." This wine represents the best of the best lots from vineyards all across Northern California.Orin Swift Saldo 2010 is 82% Zinfandel blended with 10% Petite Sirah, 6% Mourvedre and 2% Grenache. The wine has a dark ruby color and intense aromas of dark cherry, cocoa powder and baking spice. The entry is rich and full, and leads into a broad mid palate with concentration and density, backed by lively acidity. The texture is soft and the tannins are polished. The finish is long with persistent notes of chocolate, berry and vanilla bean. It was aged in French and American oak, 20% new. Enjoy Orin Swift Saldo with roast pork, grilled chicken, BBQ ribs, grilled vegetables and cheeses.

The 2009 Saldo bursts with aromas of ripe strawberry and black fruits with well integrated oak. The entry is mouth coating and leads into a mid palate with structure and good acidity. The finish is bright and long with soft tannins and subtle oak sweetness. Drink now and enjoy over the next five years.80% Zinfandel, 9% Petite Syrah, 8% Syrah, 3% Grenache Orin Swift Website
