What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

Prisoner Tasting Notes: "Begins with rich aromas of fresh fruit that entice you to dive into this sultry wine. Loaded with dark blackberry, plums, a plethora of exotic spices and hints of smoky oak and caramel that are perfectly balanced for a delightfully big and rich experience at a delightfully easy to swallow price. This 2006 vintage is even smoother in texture and more complex in deep, dark red fruit flavors than the previous vintages. If you liked the Prisoner blend 2005 you will ADORE this new release because its an even more serious and age-worthy red wine to enjoy over the next five read more...

Reviews

Delicious wine full of heavy, dark fruits, smoke and spice. Some dark cherry, blackberry, and plum with a touch of pepper. Near perfect tannins and a lingering finish. Drink now or cellar: either way it's a winner.

this is one powerfully rich wine, high in alcohol (you can taste it) but it's almost balanced out by the rich jammy-like flavors of currant, blackberries, and plums and leaves you knocked off your feet. a bit intense on it's own

Had two bottles of this wine. Decadent, hedonistic and fantastic! It's a very alcoholic wine, but you could get into trouble not realizing it's bite amidst all the rich berry and spice notes. Predominantly zinfandel, it has the usual ripeness and smokiness you'd expect, but with cab and syrah thrown in, it also takes on a velvety, rich feel and taste. It's like the Rhone and the left bank got together for a party and we're lucky to have been invited.

Decanted 4 hours. Lovely nose of blueberry fruit, chocolate, and vanilla, following to the palate. Very sweet, and those in our party who tasted it were reporting similar results. A hit for sure, but I felt some additional time in the bottle would benefit this wine. Definitely a great drinking wine now, with some decanting time.

This is a smooth and structured blend with noted tannins in the end sip. Fantastic with cheese and Italian food. Subtle hints of blackberries, peppers and mocha notes. It really gets you thinking.
