Oriel Ortolan Gruner Veltliner 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Aroma: Delicate apple and pear with spicy white pepper overtones. Taste: Crisp, fresh green apple with hints of tobacco and an intense mineral finish. Name story: Ortolan is named for the songbird found in Weinviertel's vineyards whose melody is said to have inspired Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Vineyards and winemaking: Vineyards at the foot of the Falkenstein cliffs. Rich soil mixed with weathered shell limestone over a layer of moisture-retaining clay. Hand-picked grapes and slow, temperature-controlled fermentation.
