Oriel Grenache Blend Châteauneuf-du-Pape les Pavés 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Aroma: Wild cherry and cranberry with a hint of pepper. Taste: Full-bodied and complex with black cherry, herbs and spice and a rich finish. Name story: Les Pavés is the French word for cobblestones, named for the rocky vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape that appear "paved" with stones. Vineyards and winemaking: Old vines on rocky, limestone soils surrounding the Château in this historic town just north of Avignon. Average vine age of 50 years. Aged and stirred on the lees in French oak barrels for 12 months.

A divisive wine, but for those who like the smell of barnyards, this is the shizzit. Good fruit balance with heavy hay and manure on the nose
