What to Expect

Malbec's origins as a blending grape and the core of the sometimes rustic wines of Cahors are quickly becoming forgotten as the grape becomes solidly associated with Argentina. A heat-loving variety of grape, it has always struggled to ripen in France. While still capable of producing a full-bodied rich wine, the tannins in these were formidable. In warmer climates the tannins are able to ripen fully, yielding rich, velvety wines packed with black spice notes and dark berry fruit.

Winemakers Notes

Aroma: Blueberry, plum, liquorice and spice.

Taste: Intense dark fruits; strong tannins and structure.

Name story: Falerne was a celebrated wine in the 12th century that the Bishop of Cahors sent to powerful men to win their gratitude.

Vineyards and winemaking: Gravel and stony clay-limestone soils. 10 days fermentation and 20 days post-fermentation maceration in open barrels with manual "pigeages." Aged for 21 months in French oak (100% new).
