What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Daily Wine Picks $15-$30 for July 21. Mature, but still going strong, with fig, currant paste, coffee and dark tar notes on a fleshy, muscular frame. A bit burly in the end, but will have some fans. Syrah. Made by Louis Barruol of St.-Cosme. Drink now. 1,921 cases made. -Wine Spectator 87 pts

Totally awesome. Nice dark fruit flavors, integrated tannins, underlying spicy clove/nutmeg. A total delight.
