Having just read the biography of Robert Mondavi i was excited to try this. A softer attack than expected (sems to be the case with ultra high end CA wines). Intense deep fruits. Delicious, but OMG this is a powerful wine. Still young, hence the tight finish.

I have never had a negative Opus One experience. I bought this bottle at a great savings, at $140, so had it as our main bottle on New Year's Eve 2007. The Opus eclipsed everything else we drank. Smooth, luscious, flavorful and perfectly balanced, this wine truly had us holding the empty bottle upside down, shaking it for those last few drops. Exquisite bottle of wine.

Weingut: Rothschild / MondaviLand: USARegion: KalifornienRebsorten: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, 1% Malbec, 4% Petit VerdotInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 15 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 5,75 g/lRestsüße: trockenEmpfohlene Serviertemperatur: 16 - 18°CFassreife: in Barriques gereift (17 Monate)Lagerfähigkeit: 10 - 15 Jahre ab Jahrgang Rotwein > USA > Kalifornien

Bordeaux-like in its structure and balance, showing cedary oak, dusty berry, dried currant and mineral, with hints of herb and sage. The flavors firm up on the finish, and this is rich and intense without being heavy. Needs decanting. Cabernet Sauvig... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2004 Opus One Proprietary Red Wine 1500ml

A joint project between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe Rothchild, no expense was spared in developing this property and winery. The grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted. Like classic Bordeaux, the blend, while always based on Cabernet Sauvignon is varied each year in the attempt to achieve a consistent style with aging potential. 2004 was a fantastic year for Opus One. Record low yields mean highly concentrated fruit and powerful flavors.

Wine Spectator ReviewJuly 2005 Barrel Tasting Excellent structure, tannins and acidity, with sturdy currant, blackberry, fresh earth, mineral and a whiff of tar and tobacco. A remarkably complex and impeccably balanced young wine that flexes its tannic muscle on the finish.Wine Tasting NotesShowing a lustrous dark ruby, the 2004 presents aromas of violets, cedar, black tea leaves, black pepper and brioche. A soft, creamy entry gives way to a concentrated mid-palate that expands in the mouth and lingers on the finish. Elements of cassis, toffee and cocoa round out the rich flavors of the wine. Intense fruit, bright acid and sturdy tannins promise resilience and longevity.
