Opus One Napa 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Composed of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 2% Malbec, Opus One's 2015 Proprietary Red Wine is truly an iron fist in a velvet glove, delivering a powerhouse of flavors and structure with a seductively plush texture. It opens with a deep garnet-purple color and wonderfully spicy notes of cinnamon stick, cloves and fenugreek with a core of cherry preserves, redcurrant jelly, blackberry pie and warm plums plus hints of camphor, lavender and cigar box. Full-bodied, rich and bold in the mouth, it fills the palate with exotic spice-laced black and red fruits, framed by firm, beautifully ripe, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing with epic persistence. Although it is already approachable, allow it another 3-5 years in bottle for its myriad of subtle accents to fully blossom and then drink it over the next 30+ years.-Wine Advocate *(97+Pts)*

The first few vintages, beginning in 1979, instantly created a luxury brand fetching prices upwards of $50, then considered the height of indulgence. They were produced by Mouton Rothschild winemaker Lucien Sionneau and Robert Mondavi’s son, Timothy. Opus One boosted the then fledgling Napa industry, adding a certain air of pedigree to the region.    The wines are now under the direction of Michael Silacci, produced as a Meritage blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. This “cult” wine is now in constant demand the world over, from American steak houses to private Japanese cellars.  Read less

We believe that the 2008 Opus One is an exceptional wine for its quality, but it is also exceptional in its small production. As farmers we know that we are not immune to the vagaries of nature...The result was one of the lowest yields on record for Opus One, and consequently a very small case production for the vintage. - David Pearson, CEO

Opus One is a joint venture between Mondavi and Rothschild created to express the balance between traditional and modern techniques. The vineyards of Opus One are meticulously tended and the wines are allowed to express the character of the vintage and the terroir. Sultry tannins, balanced acidity, black fruit and spices all combine together to create a memorable experience.
