Opolo Zinfandel Paso Robles Summit Creek 2007
Named for the creek that runs through Opolo's west-side vineyard in the Sant Lucia Mountains, this Zinfandel offers intense fruit, including ripe black cherry, raspberry and a touch of spice. In the mouth, this well-balanced wine offers a delightful aftertaste that keeps on giving.
3.5 glasses. Intense fruit (cranberries, prunes, plums, blackberries), raisins. Some pepper. Tannic and slightly sweet, those 2 not well harmonized but wild-tasting. Cola notes. Needs more earth & spice notes & a touch more acidity.
My current affinity is for wine that punches you directly in the mouth. From first sip this one is all in your face. Heavy fruit with enough balance to linger for just enough time at which point you realize you just got punched in the face. Then it's wow can I have another.
