Opolo Zinfandel Paso Robles Mountain Zinfandel 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Appropriately named both for its bountiful bouqet of fruit, as well as where the grapes are grown, Opolo's most refined Zinfandel ever captivates the nose with pomegranate, fig, and cranberry. Raspberry jam dominates the mid-palate nuanced by savory butterscotch overtones. Vanilla, white and cayenne peppers, and cinnamon spice makes for a lively finish. Not yet reviewed; 2010 vintage rated 90 points and 'Very highly recommended' by California Grapevine.

The central operation comprises of 98 rolling Westside vineyards in as idyllic a setting as the beautiful Paso Robles area offers. The climate here owes a great debt to the nearby Pacific Ocean. The cooling effect of the marine layer accounts for temperature swings – the diurnal range – that can be as great as 50 degrees from afternoon highs to morning lows. This great disparity in temperatures enables the fruit to enjoy a much longer “hang time” and encourages high sugar levels and concentration of flavors. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Silky, full red jams, lingers forever, syrupy and full bodied. Delicious spice counters the sweetness. Floral notes held well into next day and let sit overnight. Love this wine.

I've bought perhaps 8 cases of the 2007, and drunk half of them with friends... dynamite zin, very fruity, not tannic, very unlike Ridge or Seghesio, really a fun elegant wine. I assume it will lose fruitness as it ages. RS is under 1% and etoh is 16.6%, but the alcohol is pleasant and enhances the fruit.

Extremely dense, jammy, and full-bodied, Opolo's Mountain Zinfandel is not for the faint of heart. This is a massive Zin, with Raspberry Jam and Mocha aromatics, and a big rich structure.

Tasting Notes Appropriately named both for it bountiful bouquet of fruit, as well as where the grapes are grown, this full bodied Zinfandel has plenty of ripe black cherry, raspberry and spice and is framed by soft tannins and balanced acidity. Zinfandel isn't known as America's most decadent red for nothing.Cuisine Notes This wine pairs well with pork roast, BBQ ribs & chicken & tri-tip. It also is nice with blue veined cheeses and chocolate.
