Ontañón Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva 2004
Editorial Reviews for Ontañón Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva
This is playing coy right now with the nose alternating between being a bit dumb and effusively pouring forth herb-, earth- and ash-accented black fruits wrapped in well measured oak. Super polished on entry, this has a lovely earthy and lightly leathery tinge to the early cherry fruit of the palate. The wine gains light herb and spice notes on the mid-palate. Invisible tannins offer sufficient support to allow this to fill the mouth yet the zesty acidity keeps it lively and fresh. The fruit turns redder in the mouth with hints of red apple peels and strawberries on the back end that come with sandy soil tones and a hint of minerality. The finish is classic Rioja: cherry and vanilla, bright with a light astringency, and long but not heavy. This is rather refined Rioja. 91pts
Beautiful dark cherry cocoa nose. Great balanced palate some black tea leaves. Balanced acidity delicate sophisticated. Really nice. My fav in this Rioja tasting so far.
oak and spice, nicely balanced -- adding to my list of Fav Temps
For an aged Reserva such as this one, the wine is rather straightforward with simple red and black berries draped across a backdrop of chocolate covered bing cherries. A lovely spicy, lengthy finish makes it memorable.
Berry fruit and dark chocolate complemented by an oak flavor.

The 2004 Reserva is purple/black in color with a fragrant nose of pain grille, scorched earth, lavender, incense, and blackberry. Dense and concentrated on the palate, it has layers of fruit, succulent flavors, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Giv... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. This energetic red shows cranberry, licorice and cedar flavors carried across the palate by racy acidity, weaving spice, tobacco and leafy notes over light, firm tannins. Drink now through 2016. -T.M. Wine Spectator. A Tempranillo wine from Rioja in Spain. 2004 Bodegas Ontanon Rioja Reserva 750ml

Complex aromas of oak, balsamic and coffee. On the palate there is an abundance of fruit, as well as flavours of vanilla and licorice. It is a smooth and balanced wine with a warm and toasty finish. Mot made every year, is it one to buy before it's gone!
