User Reviews for Onix Priorat
Add your reviewA really nice Priorat. The nose was a combination of earth and burnt toast that hinted at the wine's minerality. On the palate though the overwhelming taste was one of dried fruit - prunes in particular. Good length from the mid palate to the end. Not overly complex but very solid.
We really liked this blend -- the two grapes make for a nice combination. The head was fruity, with some licorice smell. The taste was remarkably full without being rough or primitive. We'd put it at a par with the best blends from France or Australia.
Wine lovers should know that this is not 100% Grenache, it is 50% Grenache and 50% Carignan. It does carry the wonderful Rhone qualities of Grenache, yet a soft balance due to the Carignan. It is so enjoyable with BBQ, and perfect as a summer red.
this is a great table wine. strong flavor, tingly on tongue. a little "salty" too. for the price, very recommendable. tastes great with strong food - roasted meats with garlic, kale with lemon and leeks...
Given that I'm giving this thing five full cups, let's start with the bad: there's no discernible vintage on this bottle. "CLÀSSIC" ≠ vintage. I don't know what the red symbol is, but I don't like that, either. Nevertheless, this is a damn good wine. Pleasant on the nose and medium-bodied on the palate. If you're like everyone else these days (looking for something unoaked) you've come to the wrong wine. This is definitely oaked, but not in the Napa, wood-chip style. I'm loathe to say it, but "classic" hits the nail on the head.
Amazing butterscotch and prune aroma. Beautiful deep purple color. Body between a pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon. Wonderful find...thanks Jose Ordonez!

Winemaker's Notes:
The unoaked 2009 Onix Classic is a blend of 50% Carinena and 50% Garnacha sourced from vines over 60 years of age. Tempting aromas of liquid minerality, Asian spices, incense, black cherry, and black plum inform the nose of this savory, smooth, intensely flavored effort from an excellent vintage. Layered, spicy, and long, it finishes with no hard edges. Drink this outstanding value over the next 4-5 years. - Wine Advocate
